Rinse Thoroughly
Wash 1 cup of black rice under cold water to remove any excess starch or dust.
Soak (Optional but Recommended)
Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes to 1 hour to reduce cooking time and soften the texture.
Cooking
Add 2.5 cups of water to a pot for every 1 cup of black rice.
Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
Cover and simmer for 30–35 minutes or until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.
Rest & Fluff
Let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Then fluff with a fork.
